In-Car Forms
This section deals with the
Behind-the-Wheel forms for instruction and driving requirements. These forms are
directly related to each lesson given on the road at Driver Education of Vermont. It
should be a guide for the parent and the student in their practice sessions along with the
required sign-off sheet in the Parent's Survival Guide to Driver Education each
parent/student receives on the first day of class. As stated many times on this web
site, the six hours of instruction falls short of the recommended time at the wheel to
become a proficient new driver.

This "In-Car" section will
include the IN-CAR
RECORD & EVALUATION FORM utilized at Driver
Education of Vermont with the student. This form will also be linked to explanations
the terms AND how best to practice the maneuvers (behaviors) so
they become natural (performed from good habit
development). Practice is the KEY to forming of these good habits, and PARENTS are
the link to allowing this to happen.
This section will also include the Final Drive Evaluation Form.
This is the form used by Driver Education of Vermont as a final hour evaluation
(referred to by many students as the "6th hour drive from #^&"...!)
This has obtained the name over the years as the instructor is virtually silent during the
drive and gives ONLY directional commands. This leaves the preparation, procedure,
and execution of the maneuvers TOTALLY up to the student. Actually, this is the best
way of finding out how a student will perform ALONE in a vehicle. It has been in use
at Driver Education of Vermont for years and has proven to be an invaluable tool for the
students, parents, and instructor. I believe it to be a true judge of
"Beginning Driver" readiness.
Another form to be displayed will be the
Vermont Road Test Rating Form.
This will allow the parent and the student an opportunity to see the Vermont State's
requirements for obtaining a passing grade on the road test. It should be viewed
with the understanding that it is a test of BASIC skills, and in no way should be treated
as anything else. Passing this test is statement that the driver is capable of basic
maneuvers and basic control.
